Motivational Interviewing Skill Building

This training is designed to work with clinicians and students in understanding and practicing the principles of Motivational Interviewing and Stages of Change.


Participants will:

·       Acquire knowledge on the main principles of Motivational Interviewing

·       Demonstrate an understanding how MI skills can reframe communication with clients

·       Gain understanding and be able to identify stage of change

·       Identify and match interventions to meet clients at stage presented.

Program Content 

Ø  The program will go through The Principles of Motivational Interviewing

Ø  Identify the stage of change and matching intervention

Ø  Role play


A pre-test /A power point lecture and group break outs for role playing exercises.

Time Frame

A six-hour seminar

v  8:30 am – Continental Breakfast

v  9:00 – 12:00 – Principles of Motivational Interviewing

v  12:00 – 1:00 - Lunch on your own

v  1:00 – 3:00 – Stages of Change and interventions

v  3:00 – 4:00 – Group break outs.
